A newly released report by Google, Fighting Scams in Search, highlights how AI is now detecting and blocking hundreds of millions of fraudulent search results daily, making scam pages 20 times easier to identify.
One of the most alarming scam trends involves fraudsters impersonating airline customer service providers to deceive travelers. Google has already slashed impersonation scams by over 80% in Search, ensuring fewer users fall prey to fake helplines. By analyzing vast amounts of online text, detecting coordinated scam campaigns, and anticipating emerging threats, AI is helping Google stay ahead of bad actors.
Chrome users also benefit from AI-driven security improvements. Google Safe Browsing now uses Gemini Nano, an on-device AI model that instantly flags risky websites. This technology provides protection against online scams even before they become widely recognized. Google plans to bring this AI-powered security to Android devices soon.
Scammers have also taken to website notifications to push deceptive offers and misleading links. To counter this, Chrome on Android will now issue AI-powered warnings when a user receives any suspicious notification, giving users the option to unsubscribe immediately.

AI’s role in fighting scams extends beyond browsers and search engines. Google has launched on-device AI-powered Scam Detection for Google Messages and Phone on Android, helping users identify fraudulent phone calls and texts before they escalate into serious threats.
As scammers continue to change tactics, Google remains committed to keep its billions of users safe. With AI powered scam prevention, users can navigate the digital world with greater security and confidence.
